Growing talent. Valuing our land. Building the future of Gontougo.
A vision built on leadership, economic inclusion and the mobilisation of skills, serving the people of Tanda and Gontougo.
Tanda has everything it takes to succeed
Fertile land, skills, a strong community life and a large young population: Tanda’s assets are immense. What is missing are the opportunities to make them thrive locally.
Isabelle Boblaï Douassoh’s vision rests on four convictions: invest first in people; support initiatives born on the ground; build solid partnerships; act for the long term.
Ten priorities to build Tanda
- The situation
- Too much of what Tanda produces leaves the area unprocessed, and the added value is created elsewhere.
- What we want to do
- Identify promising value chains, support small processing units, open up access to markets.
- For whom
- Farmers, craftspeople, women traders, small businesses.
- What must change
- Steadier incomes and more value created in Tanda.
- The situation
- Manual tools, post-harvest losses, little local processing.
- What we want to do
- Improved techniques, storage, processing of food crops and hive products, links with agricultural research.
- For whom
- Family farms, cooperatives, women's groups.
- What must change
- Fewer losses, processed products sold at better prices.
- The situation
- Lacking prospects, too many young people leave Tanda.
- What we want to do
- Short training in promising trades, support for starting a business, mentoring by professionals and the diaspora.
- For whom
- Young people with or without qualifications, young farmers.
- What must change
- Young people who succeed at home.
- The situation
- Women carry a large share of farm work and trade, with too little access to credit, land and training.
- What we want to do
- Strengthen women's groups, train in management, share processing equipment, develop community savings.
- For whom
- Women's groups, traders, processors.
- What must change
- Women who control their income and take their place in decision-making.
- The situation
- Associations and cooperatives often lack management and planning tools.
- What we want to do
- Train in leadership, project management and governance, then support in the field.
- For whom
- Association leaders, youth and women leaders.
- What must change
- Strong organisations able to lead their own projects.
- The situation
- Prevention and full schooling remain hard to access, especially for girls and in remote villages.
- What we want to do
- Prevention and screening days with health professionals, support for keeping girls in school.
- For whom
- Families, pupils, women, older people.
- What must change
- Better-protected families, children who go further at school.
- The situation
- Rural roads, drinking water, electricity, network coverage: essential needs still poorly met.
- What we want to do
- Identify needs village by village and champion them with the relevant institutions.
- For whom
- Villages and neighbourhoods of the department.
- What must change
- Priorities heard and facilities maintained by their users.
- The situation
- Residents, especially young people and women, have too little say in decisions that affect them.
- What we want to do
- Regular meetings, public reporting, civic participation training.
- For whom
- Residents, traditional chiefdoms, associations.
- What must change
- Stronger trust between residents and those who act on their behalf.
- The situation
- Depleted soils, bush fires, climate hazards: farming is on the front line.
- What we want to do
- Agro-ecology, reforestation, beekeeping, fire prevention.
- For whom
- Farmers, young people, schools.
- What must change
- Land that will still feed future generations.
- The situation
- Development only lasts if it rests on unity between generations and communities.
- What we want to do
- Celebrate traditions, music and skills, support sport and culture, involve traditional and religious leaders.
- For whom
- All the communities of Tanda.
- What must change
- A strong identity, a source of cohesion and pride.
