Les Ruches de l'Espoir (Hives of Hope)

Making beekeeping a lasting source of income for rural women in the Tanda department. First milestone reached on 8 March 2026: beekeeping kits handed over to five women’s associations.

Ongoing

TO BE CONFIRMED — Number of kits and hives handed over, content of a kit, link between the Douassoh Foundation and the BDI movement, names and titles of the authorities present on 8 March 2026.

The challenge

Farm incomes are seasonal. Young people and women lack complementary activities, while Tanda’s natural environment is ideal for beekeeping.

Why it matters

Beekeeping needs little land, complements farming and helps pollinate crops. Practised with modern methods, it produces quality honey without destroying colonies.

Our ambition

Make modern beekeeping a lasting source of income for young people and women in Tanda.

  • Train beekeepers in modern techniques.
  • Equip them with hives and gear.
  • Organise the collective sale of honey.

Who benefits

Women’s associations in five localities of the Tanda department: Tanda, Béléoulé, Toundiani, Guiméré and Bouko.

What we will do

  • Handover of beekeeping kits to women’s associations — completed on 8 March 2026.
  • Practical training in modern beekeeping.
  • Setting up and monitoring apiaries.
  • Harvesting, packaging and selling honey.

Expected results

  • Beekeepers trained and equipped.
  • Productive apiaries.
  • Additional income for families.

How we will measure impact

  • Beekeepers trained, including women and young people.
  • Hives installed and colonised.
  • Honey harvested and sold.
  • Additional income per beekeeper.

Where we stand

The project has been launched. On 8 March 2026, for International Women’s Day, the Douassoh Foundation brought the women of the department together at Tanda town hall around the theme “Women of Tanda: taking charge of local development through production and entrepreneurship”, with Isabelle Boblaï Douassoh as patron.

That day, beekeeping kits were handed over to the women’s associations of Tanda, Béléoulé, Toundiani, Guiméré and Bouko, in the presence of administrative and traditional authorities.

Next steps: training the women beekeepers, setting up the apiaries and organising the sale of honey.
